About Adult and Baby Animals
Children often don't know the
specific name for an animal baby. They
may point and say "baby" at the sight of a small animal. Children can
develop new vocabulary to describe these "babies" as they match the
cards
in this set. Ask children how they can tell a baby animal's mother apart
from
other animals. They may answer that a baby looks like its mother or has
similar features. Hold up the adult animal piece of the puzzle and ask
for
the name of the baby animal. Then, hold up the animal baby piece and
reinforce the pair by saying, An adult is called a "lion", but a baby
lion
is called a "cub".
