Game Description:
Not familiar with what an anagram is?
The dictionary
definition is:
Anagram: A word or phrase formed by
re-arranging
the letters
of another word or phrase.
Here are a couple of simple examples.
The word 'cape' is an anagram
of the word 'pace'. The words 'peat' and 'tape'
are both anagrams of
the phrase 'a pet'.
Anagram games are not new, but they are traditionally games for
solo players.
That's why Karmel Games is proud to introduce the
first anagram board game
that is also a multi player game. So if
you're looking for a new and exciting board
game, our suggestion is
that you try Anagramania. Unlike typical anagram word
puzzles, the
clues in Anagramania are not just the word or words from which
the
answer is derived. Instead, the anagram clues actually provide a
hint or
definition of the correct solution! See the example at the
foot of this page.
For each game, every player has a "throw away" clue sheet
containing twenty
clues, like the example shown at left (the actual
size of these sheets is 11" x 4").
There are 24 sets of six clue
sheets in each game pack. That's enough for
six players to play 24
separate games.
During game play, players conceal their clue sheets in special
'pockets' that
allow them to see only one new clue at a time. In
most board games players
have to await their turn, which can be
quite irritating if each player requires
several minutes for his or
her turn. That's not the case in this multi player game.
In each
turn, all players compete simultaneously to solve the same clue.
No
time limit is set at the start of the turn, but once any one player
claims
to have the answer and has written it down, other players
have just one minute
more to complete their efforts to find the
answer (timed by a sand timer).
By solving clues, players move pawns on a 14" x 14" play board
(see picture at right). A correct answer earns forward progress -
two squares
for the first person who answered, one square for
others. For a wrong answer,
the player moves his/her pawn back a
square; and for no answer, the pawn
is left in its current position.
For added excitement, the winner of the round may
choose to penalize
another player by moving that player's pawn back a square,
while
only moving his/her own pawn forward one square (instead of two).
The winner of this entertaining anagram board game is the first
player to reach
the center circle on the board, with a typical game
lasting about
45 minutes.
The simultaneous method of play leaves no
time for any
player to get bored!
Whether you're a word game whiz or simply in search of a word puzzle
game
that's fun to play socially, Anagramania will excite and
challenge you.
The Original Edition of this anagram game comes with
clues at the intermediate
level. As you become more adept at the
game, you can move to a new skill level
with additional clue card
packs (available separately) at the advanced or expert
levels. Here
are some samples
of the clues at each level.
Junior (Ages 8-12)
Here's a great way
for children to have fun while they are expanding their
vocabulary
and word skills! Kids, see if you can solve these clues by
re-arranging
the letters of the word written in bold
italics:
You'll find this
arm joint a few inches below the shoulder.
answer: elbow
Take a stab at guessing what flying
creatures live in caves.
answer: bats
Intermediate
You solve these clues by looking for the keywords in the clue that
are written in bold italics. Although there may be more than one of
them, they are always consecutive. Using all the letters of the
keywords, make a single-word anagram that solves the clue:
A chef reacts
when asked to provide food service.
answer: caters
If you've lost Eric, he may usually be
found in a monastery.
answer: cloister
Advanced
The clues are tougher for advanced level players because the
answers are words you probably don't use very often:
I expect to find trickery
in each cry that is made.
answer: chicanery
His ambition led to his spirit being
unconquerable.
answer: indomitable
Expert
Unlike other levels, the keywords from which the anagram answer is
formed
are not revealed in expert level clues. Instead, a letter
count is given
(in parentheses) showing the length of the answer.
The keywords are still
consecutive in the clue - you just don't know
what they are!
He tried once to
understand the clue, but it was too abstruse.
answer: recondite
When he's mixed up, a pirate craves to avoid the truth.
answer: prevaricates
