out! This
nostalgic puzzle depicts an old fashioned barn raising, complete

John Deere tractor pulling the load of wood. It's a simple scene,
but a
challenging one to piece together, with its abundance of greenery.
Following the purchase of the Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company and its
Waterloo Boy Tractor, and with his company's reputation in the tractor
industry firmly established , John Deere was able to turn his attention
back to the development of a tractor he had been working on for years
before - the Model D. The first tractor to bear the John Deere name the
Model D would become known as the most enduring of all John Deere
tractors, and would enjoy a production reign of 30 years.
Although it had the same basic engine layout of the Waterloo Boy, the
Model D incorporated design advancements that gave it an edge over other
tractors available. According to john Deere brochures, the Model D
boasted "greater simplicity, lower upkeep cost, longer life," as well as
enhanced design features.
The Model D proved to be a great commercial success. And even when the
hard times hit the country in the 1920's and 30's, and tractor sales
throughout the United States were at their lowest, oversea contracts for
the Model D carried the company through.
Later years saw minor engineering changes and industrial adaptations to
the Model D, but its basic design and construction stayed relatively the
same until its final production run in 1953. With over 160,000
mainstream models having been sold, many John Deere fans still consider
the Model D to be the John Deere Company's signature tractor.
