Growing Up Country Jigsaw Puzzle
Description:
Little
farmers hard at work! This colorful puzzle shows two country tykes
unloading hay from their child-sized John Deer tractor, while friendly
farm chickens and an adoring puppy look on. This charming scene will
bring a smile to your face as you complete it.
In
1918, after years of experimenting with designs for its own tractors,
the John Deere Company bought the Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company, a
well established tractor manufacturer. With that historic purchase,
Deere acquired the Waterloo Boy Tractor - a commercially successful
tractor and probably the best tractor of its time.
The Waterloo Boy Tractor had several mechanical features that set it
apart from other tractors. Perhaps the most notable was its
water-cooled, 2 cylinder engine that burned kerosene (a heavier
petroleum distillate than gasoline) which provided excellent combustion,
and rewarded farmers with more work with less fuel, resulting in
significant cost savings.
For the next several years, the Waterloo Boy Tractor - with its simple
design and relatively inexpensive production cost, continued to be a
particularly successful tractor for the John Deere Company. Not
surprisingly the tractor became an international success as well,
particularly in Great Britain, where it was sold as the "Overtime
Tractor".
History has it that not only was the Waterloo Boy Tractor credited with
taking the John Deere Tractor credited with taking the John Deere
Company into the tractor business, but the tractor's success helped
launch the company into developing its own, completely new tractor line.
