HOW TO PLAY - JUNIOR ALPHA ANIMALS
GAME RULES

Object of the Game

The object of the game at both levels is to move from the "Start" box to the "Finish" box by moving your token along the letters of the alphabet.

Start of the Game

The youngest player goes first.  The person to their left goes second, and so on in a clockwise fashion.  There is no time limit for each turn, but if you want one, we suggest 20-30 seconds.

Moving Through the Alphabet

Level One - Players 4-6 years old

Start by placing your token on the letter A and roll the die.  If you get any color except yellow (pick a card) or blue (free go) you have to name any animal beginning with the letter A.  If you name one correctly (for example: Ant or Ape) you continue to move on to B.  If you name another animal correctly (for example: Bear or Bat) you move on to the letter C, and so on.  You keep going until you cannot name an animal beginning with the letter that appears on the square you have landed on, or until you roll a yellow (pick a card) or reach the Alpha Card box.

If you roll yellow (pick a card), you must pick up an Alpha Card and follow the directions given on the card.  Each Alpha Card either moves you forward or backward, it's the end of your turn.

About the Alpha Card boxes: The first is after the letter D.  When you answer D correctly you move on to the Alpha Card box.  Each card moves you forward or backward and then it's the end of your turn.

If you roll blue (free go), move forward one space, and either roll again if you move on to a letter square or pick up an Alpha Card if you are on the Alpha Card square.

Some boxes have more than one letter of the alphabet on them.  Any of the letters on that square can be used.

Level Two - Advanced Play

This is similar to level one, with the added challenge of animal categories.

Start by placing your token on the letter A and then roll the die.  Depending on what color is shown, the guide on the edge of the board must be followed.

Red      Name an animal, bird or insect that flies
Yellow  Pick an Alpha Card
Green
Name an animal or fish that swims
Blue     Free space, move one square
Purple  Name an animal that lives on land
Black   Name any animal

For example, if you roll a purple color, you must name an animal beginning with an A that lives on land.  If you name a correct answer (for example: Antelope) you continue by moving your token to B and rolling the die again.  If a blue color is thrown, you have a free go and move to C, and roll the die again.  If a red color is thrown an animal/bird/insect that flies beginning with C must be name.  This continues until you cannot give a correct answer or an Alpha Card is picked up, then it's the second players turn.  The second player starts by placing their token on A and rolling the die and proceeding as above.

As with level one, when you answer D correctly you move on to the Alpha Card box.  Each Alpha Card either moves you forward or back, and then it's the end of your turn.

No repeats of any animals are allowed in level two.  Once an animal has been named by any player, it cannot be named by any other player.

Winner Of The Game

The winner of the game is the first to arrive at the "finish" box.
