HOW TO PLAY -
AMERICA'S SPIRIT
- GAME
RULES
OBJECT:
To be the first player/team to take their flag to the top of the
flagpole.
SET-UP:
-
Playing Pieces: Punch out the American
Flags and place them in the plastic stands of the same color.
-
Each player selects an American Flag and
places it at the START of the flagpole. Place the American Flag on
a flagpole of the same color as the playing piece.
-
Place the Americology cards to the
right side of the game board.
-
Place the Whaddaya Think? cards and
the Who Am I? cards on the left side of the game board.
-
Give each player a Whaddaya Think?
notepad. (You will need to provide pencils or pens.)
PLAYING:
1. Choose teams or play
individually if only 2 or 3 people are playing.
2. The player/team whose birthday
is closest to July 4th goes first and selects a card from the
Americology deck. The card is handed to the player on their
right, now referred to as the READER. If playing in teams, a
teammate will be READER. If playing in teams, a teammate will be
READER.
3. READER starts the 30 second sand
timer and begins playing the Instant America™ section of the
Americology card.
Americology:
a) PLAYER tries to guess all
three names (people, place, or thing) listed on the Instant America
portion of the card before the timer runs out. READER gives
clues to PLAYER by using words, phrases or descriptions, but cannot use
the actual words printed on the card. PLAYER may keep guessing
until the correct answer is mentioned. READER may use any number
of clues per name, but if READER uses words on the card, play
immediately ends and READER's team moves back one space.
Example: For the answer "Civil War," one might say, "19th century
armed conflict between the states" or "North vs. South conflict."
For each correct answer, PLAYER moves one notch up.
NEXT
b)
READER reads the two questions on the card. PLAYER moves one
notch up for each correct answer. The maximum spaces that a player
can move per Americology card is five spaces.
c) IF PLAYER guesses all three names within the time limit
and correctly answers both questions on the card, all players get
to play a Whaddaya Think? card. If PLAYER does not
guess all sections correctly, PLAYER's turn is over.
4. Whadday Think? cards show
how much you know about the other players. PLAYER reads question
number one aloud. PLAYER writes down on the notepad the answer to
the question as it pertains to himself/herself. All other players
write their guess at PLAYER's answer on their notepads.
If one person guesses the correct answer, PLAYER moves their flag up one
notch and the player who guessed correctly also moves up one notch.
If two or more players match PLAYER, they each move up one notch.
If no players guess correctly, PLAYER does not move. (Teammates
and opposing team players play as individuals on Whaddaya Think?
question.)
5. PLAYER's turn is over
after the Whaddaya Think? round.
BONUS ROUND/AMERICAN ICONS:
If PLAYER lands on an American icon (note: the notch where the
bottom of the American Icon sits is considered the bonus round notch) at
the end of his/her turn or after completing a Whaddaya Think?
card, PLAYER now has a chance to earn bonus points. PLAYER chooses
the top card from the Who Am I? deck and hands it to READER.
There are two possible questions on each card. PLAYER selects
"left" or "right" question. READER reads clue number one for the
corresponding question. (In this case, the READER is the other
team and all team members may participate.)
"WHO AM I?" BONUS SCORING:
If PLAYER guesses the correct answer after:
CLUE 1, PLAYER moves up 5 notches.
CLUE 2, PLAYER moves up 4 notches.
CLUE 3, PLAYER moves up 3 notches.
CLUE 4, PLAYER moves up 2 notches.
CLUE 5, PLAYER moves up 1 notch.
Players/Teams may only give one answer per card when playing a Who Am
I? card. If incorrect, their turn ends.
ENDING AND WINNING THE GAME:
The player whose flag reaches the top of the flagpole first, wins!
