Learn About It!
A photo stylist prepares items to
be photographed before a photo shoot in order to create a certain look
in an advertisement or film. Photo stylists arrange everything
from backgrounds to food and clothing, using their artistic and
technical knowledge to "frame" the best picture possible for their
clients.
Think About It! Many photo
stylists prepare and arrange food to make it appear appetizing in an
advertisement, sometimes painting or glazing pieces of food. Photo
stylists have even substituted mashed potatoes to look like ice cream
because the mashed potatoes do not melt as fast under the hot lights
used in filming.
Talk About It! What is the
best photo you have ever seen in a print advertisement? Why do you
think it is so effective?
Do It! Watch some TV
commercials advertising cereal. Compare the techniques the photo
stylist have used for different brands. Are the bowls colorful or
plain white? Does the cereal look soggy, or does it appear to
float at the top of the bowl? Which cereal would you rather eat?
