HOW TO PLAY - CAREERS FOR KIDS MUSIC CARDS - GAME RULES

Example Card - Careers for Kids Music Cards:

MUSIC VEEJAY

Learn About It!  A music veejay is an announcer who introduces and plays music videos on a TV program or network.  Veejays are responsible for giving commentary, interviewing guests and announcing music news.  While the first video programs were for rock music, there are now video shows for nearly every type of popular music, including country and rap.

Think About It!  When MTV exploded on the music scene as the first 24-hour music cable network in 1981, the station hired young veejays, such as Martha Quinn and Mark Goodman, to give the image to teenage viewers that the station was being run by the youth of America, not adults.  The strategy of creating the veejays' image as a group of teenagers hanging out listening to their favorite music worked - within three years, MTV's audience grew to 22 million viewers between the ages of 12 and 34.

Talk About It!  How would preparing for a show as a music veejay differ from preparing for a radio show?

Do It!  Veejays often interview music stars for their shows.  Write down five questions you would like to ask your favorite musician.
