HOW TO PLAY- DECISIONS -GAME RULES
Instructions:
1) Provide
each player with an Account Record sheet and $50,000 in whatever
combination of denominations is requested. Have players double
check there starting cash on hand for accuracy. Please duplicate
Account Record sheets for future use.
2) Spin to
determine the order of play with the highest number playing first.
3) Each spin
provides two items of information:
-
how many spaces
to move clockwise
-
instructions to
buy, sell, or draw a 'chance' card.
Instructions to buy
or sell are exercised on the stock named in the space. If the
instruction is optional the player is challenged to make the best
strategic decision. If a sell instruction is not optional it must
be carried out with one exception: the player does not own the stock.
The turn ends without a transaction.
The instructions on
the four green buy/sell spaces are not optional and must be carried out.
Chance card
instructions are optional except for payment of interest of commissions.
4) When a
transaction is made the player computes the result, explains it to the
other players, completes the transaction and enters the information into
appropriate columns of the Account Record. Players must explain
their solutions to each other, thereby gaining skill in "communicating
their mathematical thinking coherently and clearly to peers" as
recommended in the NCTM Standards.
5) Entries in
the Account Record consist of the following:
-
The name of the
stock. The Record has space for four transactions involving
each company.
-
The results of
the transaction must be entered into all columns involved.
-
The Value
Balance for each stock is computed only at the end of the game.
To obtain the Value Balance, multiply the final number of shares
owned by their original purchase price.
-
At the end of
the game, compute the Value Balances for each stock, add the
Value Balances, count the cash on hand and add it to the Value
Balance sum to determine net worth. The total is the net worth
of the player. The player with the highest net worth at the
end of the game is the winner.
-
Play is
open-ended. The game may end after a certain time limit has
been reached or a predetermined number of times around the board has
been achieved by each player
