HOW TO PLAY - OVAL OFFICE
- GAME
RULES
Object of the Game:
The objective of OVAL OFFICE is
to become President of the United States by collecting either a majority
of the Electoral College votes, or more than any other player.
Players earn the Electoral College votes by correctly answering the
questions on the question and answer cards.
Players:
OVAL OFFICE can be played by
two to four players. Teams of two or more players are recommended,
much as presidential tickets consist of a candidate for president and
vice-president.
Equipment:
The OVAL OFFICE game contains one playing board, three sets of
question and answer cards, four sets of player tokens, one die, and a
scoring pad.
Question and Answer Cards
The questions on each question and answer card cover a variety of
subjects that pertain to being President of the United States.
These subjects include politics, current affairs, American history,
world history, geography, economics, etc. There are three sets of
question and answer cards. The sets are differentiated by their
color. The card sets consist of two, four, or six questions, all
with their corresponding answers. At the top of each card is a
letter. The answer to each question on every card begins with that
letter. For questions whose answer is a person's name, the letter
on the card s the beginning letter of the person's last name. For
instance, a question whose answer is George Washington will be listed on
a card where all answers begin with the letter W. For questions
that require more than one answer, the answers are listed in
alphabetical order. Therefore a question whose answer is cherry
tree and Delaware River will be listed on a card where all answers begin
with the letter C. For questions whose answer is a date or number,
the letter on the card will be the first letter of the date or number if
it were spelled out. For instance, a question whose answer is 1776
will be listed on a card where all answers begin with the letter S.
Start of Play
Each player will select a uniquely colored group of playing tokens.
Players will then roll the die, and the player rolling the highest
number will be the first participant in the game.
Method of Play
At the beginning of each player's turn, the player will select the
state they wish to attempt to win. The player will then be asked
questions from a card with the same color as the state they selected on
the playing board. If the player answers all the questions
correctly, the player will place their token on the state and claim the
state's votes. If the player cannot answer all questions
correctly, the remaining players will each have one chance to answer
questions from a similarly colored card. The player that answers
the greatest number of questions correctly will place their token on the
state and claim the state's votes. If there is a tie, the players
that are tied will roll the die. The player rolling the highest
number will win the state and claim the state's votes. Regardless
of who wins the state, play will continue with the next player in the
predetermined order. The first player to claim 270 Electoral
College votes is declared President of the United States. If no
player with the most votes will be declared President of the United
States.
