HOW TO PLAY - SHAPES UP- GAME
RULES
Before You Start
-
Sort the colored shapes according to
their shape and size.
-
Shuffle the individual groups of
shapes and place them in the tray.
-
Place the shape tray in the center so
that all players can reach it.
-
Give each player a game board.
-
Make sure the timer is ready to use.
A Faster Way to Play!
Some players find that Shapes Up is faster-paced when playing
without the 10 second timer. During play, all players make sure
that moves are made quickly and the game's fast pace is maintained.
Object of the Game
Roll the die and, as fast as you can, place a shape on your board.
If you're the first to fill your board to form a large multicolored
square and it "Shapes Up" -- you win!
For 2 player games: remove half of
the colored shapes from each shape group, so that: the small triangles
contain only 4 triangles of each color; the large triangles contain only
4 triangles of each color; and the squares contain only 2 squares of
each color.
For 3 player games: remove a third
of the colored shapes from each shape group, so that: the small
triangles contain only 6 triangles of each color; the large triangles
contain only 6 triangles of each color; and the squares contain only 3
squares of each color.
How to Play
Choose a player to go first.
Continue taking turns among players in a clockwise direction, following
these steps:
1. Throw the die. Take the
shape that is shown face-up on the die from the top of the shapes tray.
2. Turn the timer over and place the
shape on your game board. Think fast! You only have 10
seconds to place the shape on your board following these rules:
Line rules:
-
A shape placed on the board must
fit exactly inside of the white shape outlines on the board.
A large shape will cover some of the white outlines, but it must
still be bordered by a white outline on all of its sides.
-
You cannot place a shape so that
it lies outside the borders of the game board.
Color rule:
During-Your-Turn
rules:
-
If you are not able to place your
shape on the board because:
1) the time runs out, or 2) you can't follow the line or color
rules, keep the shape to one side. You may place it on
your board when it is your turn later on, instead of rolling the
die.
-
You can skip rolling the die and
use the 10 seconds to rearrange your pieces (those on the board
or those collected to one side) on the board.
-
If you roll the die and get a
shape that is no longer in the shape tray, you don't get any
shape and it becomes the next player's turn.
And the Winner Is........
When you have filled-up your game board, shout out: "Shapes Up!"
The other players then check your game board to make sure you have
followed the line and color rules. If you haven't they each take a
shape from your board and the game continues. But, if you have you
are the winner!
