HOW TO PLAY - SIGHT WORD QUIZMO
SET 2
GAME
GAME
RULES
How to Play Quizmo
-
The teacher or
game leader chooses Game E, F, G, or H depending on the level of
challenge preferred.
-
Distribute the
Quizmo cards for the game chosen and a supply of word markers.
-
Have players
look at the center of each card to make sure the correct side is
facing up.
-
Players may
place a marker on the center space - this space is "free."
-
The teach or
game leader should give the following directions:
"Here's how Sight Word Quizmo is played. When I say a word,
look carefully at your card to see if that word is there. If
you see the word I called, cover it with a word marker. If
that word is not on your card, look up and wait to hear the next
word. When you have covered all five words in one row - either
across the card, up and down, or diagonally - say 'Quizmo!' You have
won the game."
-
The teacher or
game leader then calls out a word from the "Words to Call" cards and
waits for the players to find that word. The word may be
called in any order.
-
When a player
calls "Quizmo!", that player's card should be checked against the
words called. If any errors were made, they should be
explained so the group may team from the mistake.
-
After a player
has won, the game may be played for another round by shuffling the
"Words to Call" cards.
-
The game may be
replayed as often as time permits. When the players are
confident of the words, they take less time to find and cover them,
and those claiming to win make no mistakes. Then the next more
challenging game may be played.
Extended Activities
-
The caller may
use each word in a sentence.
-
Players are
instructed to softly repeat each word that is called as they begin
to search.
-
All words on a
card must be covered before calling "Quizmo!"
-
Students can
use a game card to study sight words. Then they can be asked
to pronounce all the words in a row or the whole card.
Evaluation
-
The student can
pronounce correctly the five words in a winning row.
-
The students
recognizes all the words in a single game.
-
The students
identifies sight words correctly when they appear in reading
material.
