HOW TO PLAY - STATE CAPITALS QUIZMO GAME
GAME RULES

Before Playing State Capitals Quizmo:
Review the method of play you will use for this game and the several types of questions the students will encounter during play.

Directions for Play:

  1. Distribute one Quizmo Game Board to each player.

  2. Make sure everyone has enough markers.

  3. Determine which type of questions you will be using either the green side or the blue side.

  4. Allow the players time to review their Game Boards before starting the game.

  5. Select a player to act as a "caller".

  6. The Caller announces the winning patter for the game.
    A.  Five in a row (any direction).
    B.  Five Straight down.
    C.  Four Corners.
    D.  The entire card.
    E.  Caller's Choice - Caller can make up the pattern for winning.  (example: ring around the center square, five spots anywhere etc.)

  7. The caller makes sure all the Calling Cards are facing the correct way (by color) and shuffles the deck.  The caller reads the question.  Each player would place a marker on the game board.  The game continues until one player forms the winning pattern.  The wining player then calls out "Quizmo!"

  8. The other players should leave their makers on their game boards until the winner is confirmed.

Extended Activities:

  1. Use the calling cards as flash cards.

  2. Set up two teams and the team that answers the most questions correctly wins.

  3. Create your own calling cards and/or game boards for new fun styles of play using facts learned in class.

  4. Put the calling cards under an opaque projector to help with visual clues and to alleviate any confusion regarding the questions.
