Play - Sum Time Game - Game Rules
Number Tiles
Turn over a tile. You can see that a special system was devised for
Sum Time. It's called "coding". Each tile had a different code -- a
different series of bumps that allows only the correct tile to fit on
the counting cards! Each number or symbol tile comes in four different
colors. The colors have nothing to do with solving any of the math
problems.
Make sure that the tiles are arranged in numerical order, and are placed
over the matching numbers and symbols in the case.
Counting Cards
There are 15 counting cards. Four of the cards feature counting
exercises. The remaining cards are arranged in order of increasing
difficulty up to card 15, which features multiplication by two.
Select the card you want to work with and place it face up in the yellow
cardholder. The card will be on the left, and the tiles on the right.
Put the rest of the cards in the storage space under the yellow
cardholder.
Play
There are several exercises on each card. Players must either count,
add, subtract, of multiply, then choose the tiles that reflect the
correct answer, and place them on the square next to the exercise. If
the tile(s) fit, then you have the right answer!
NOTE: You must count the OBJECTS in the picture, not the holes in the
card, to complete the exercise!
Follow these descriptions to help you along:
COUNTING
Card 1 -- The Elephant
Card 2 -- The Giraffe
Cards 1 and 2 feature counting only. Count the different objects in the
picture and place the correct tile next to the exercises.
ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION
Card 3 -- The Snake
Card 4 -- The Ostrich
Add or Subtract the objects in the pictures.
EXERCISES
Card 5 -- Sea Creatures
Count each group (sea horses, bubbles, jellyfish) and complete the
addition exercises.
SIMPLE SUBTRACTION EXERCISES
Card 6 -- Birds and Eggs
Count each group of birds and eggs and complete the subtraction
exercises.
Card 7 -- Strange Animals
Count the teeth, flies and shoes and complete the addition or
subtraction exercises.
Card 8 -- Things at Night
Count the stars, bats and fireflies and complete the addition or
subtraction exercises.
Card 9 -- Under the Ocean
Count the sea creatures in each square to complete these advanced
addition exercises.
Card 10 -- Monsters on Mars
Count the kooky objects in each square to complete these advanced
subtraction exercises.
Card 11 -- Silly Seals
Follow the numbers in the balls and place the correct tiles to complete
these addition exercises.
Card 12 -- Mischievous Monkey
Place the correct tiles in the boxes to complete these subtraction
exercises.
Card 13 -- A Terrific Tiger
Place the correct tiles in the boxes to complete these addition and
subtraction exercises.
Card 14 -- Ladybugs!
Place the correct tiles in the boxes to complete these addition and
subtraction exercises. The ladybugs look alike -- look closely and see
if you can find the differences!
Card 15 -- Busy Beavers
This card features simple multiplication times two. Place the correct
tiles on the tree next to each exercise.
