HOW TO PLAY - THE WORLD ALMANAC FOR
KIDS
GAME
RULES
Setting Up
-
Open the game board and place on a
flat surface. Open the box of cards and shuffle approximately
one quarter of the deck.
-
Place the cards question side down on
the game board on top of the card space marked 1st Guess. The
rest of the cards remain in the box until they are needed.
-
Each player chooses a game piece and
places it on the purple space marked Start.
Playing the Game
To begin:
-
The person whose birthday is coming up
next goes first.
-
Game is played clockwise (the person
to your left is next).
Taking Turns:
-
The player to your right draws a card
from the 1st Guess pile and reads it to you.
-
After hearing the question you may
either:
a) Try for a Bonus Point. If you answer the question
correctly without hearing the 3 answer options, move forward 3
spaces. The reader must decide if your answer is similar
enough to be considered correct. Some questions cannot be
answered without the 3 answer options.
b) OR choose to have the 3 answer options read to you.
If you answer correctly, move forward 2 spaces.
-
If you choose the incorrect answer,
place the card in the 2nd Guess pile on the game board. When
playing with two players, the reader places the card in front of his
or herself face down forming a pile (2nd guess pile). You may
not play from your own second guess pile.
-
As the game continues, players may
choose from the 1st guess pile or 2nd guess pile.
-
Questions from the 2nd Guess pile
should always e read giving the 3 answer options. If you
answer a question correctly from the 2nd Guess pile, move forward 1
space. If you choose the incorrect answer, the correct answer is
read aloud and the cards is removed from the game.
HINT: If you are the reader, make
sure to keep the answers hidden from all other players.
COOL EXTRA'S:
HINT: As the 2nd Guess pile forms,
the game becomes a memory game as well as a trivia game. If you
can remember which answers were already given, you will have a better
chance at getting the correct answer.
HINT: Answering a question from a
2nd Guess pile can help you move forward 1 space, and can also be an
important part of your strategy for landing on the good Wild Spots or
avoiding the bad ones.
2 Guesses Card:
-
There are 5 "2 Guesses" cards.
-
If you get a "2 Guesses" card, choose
another card to answer.
-
Keep the "2 Guesses" card to use when
you need another guess.
-
It can only be used whiled answering a
1st Guess card. If you answer incorrectly, you may play your
"2 Guesses" card to get another guess. If you answer correctly
on your 2nd guess, move forward 2 spaces. If you answer
incorrectly the answer is read aloud and the card is removed from
the game. A "2 Guesses" card can only be used once, then it is
removed from the game.
Wild Spots:
-
There are 8 Wild Spots indicated by
larger playing spaces and black words. If you and land on one,
follow the directions on that space.
-
Wild Spot Chain Reaction happens when
you land on a Wild Spot causing another player to move and land on a
Wild Spot.
-
Example 1 - If you land on
a "move another player back 2 spaces" Wild Spot causing the
player you move back to land on a "take another turn" Wild Spot,
they will immediately take a turn at answering a question.
-
Example 2 - If you (Player
1) lands on a "move another player forward 2 spaces" Wild Spot
causing the player you move forward (Player 2) to land on a
"move another player back two spaces" they would follow the
directions and move another player back two spaces. This
may cause that player (Player 3) to land on a "take another
turn" Wild Spot, so they would take another turn and so on.
-
Whose turn is it after a chain
reaction?
The person to the left of the last person to have landed on a
Wild Spot.
-
"Change places with another
player" - This Wild Spot only works once per turn. If you
land on it and change places with another player, they do not
get to change places with another player.
How to Win
The first person to land on or go past the
Finish space wins.
