HOW TO PLAY - WALKING WITH DINOSAURS- GAME
RULES
Game One: Dinosaur Drive.
Ages 3-5
Object of the game: To be the
first player to evolve and reach the large circle with the Tyrannosaurus
in it on the top right-hand corner of the board.
Each player chooses a coloured base for
their tokens. There are four different colours to choose from.
Each player chooses one of the four tokens
from the Triassic Period. These tokens have a "T" on them.
All players start by putting their tokens into their coloured bas and
placing them on the large start cirle which is at the bottom left-hand
side of the board at the beginning of the Triassic Period. This
circle has dinosaur eggs in it.
The youngest player goes first, rolls the
die and moves forward the number of spaces indicated by the die.
Players must move in a clockwise direction and follow the dinosaur
tracks. Players keep moving around the Triassic Period track.
There are two ways to evolve to the next Period, the Jurassic Period.
1) By landing exactly on the blue
circle that leads to the Jurassic Period. When a player lands
exactly on this circle they evolve to the Jurassic Period and then they
trade in their Triassic Period token for a Jurassic Period token.
The Jurassic Period token has a "J" on it.
2) By landing exactly on the green
circle. This is great as a player gets to evolve faster than their
peers and they can move to the Late Jurassic Period, trading in their
token for the Jurassic Period token.
The cards: On the purple circles with
question marks the player simply rolls the die and moves forward the
number of spaces indicated by the die.
Players at this level also ignore the
black circles which move players back to a previous Period.
Please note:
1) A player keeps going round and
round the Period they are in until they are able to leave it as
indicated above.
2) When a player has progressed to
the next Period and they have missed the link to the following Period,
they keep going round the track. If a player then lands on the
blue circle from the previous Period, they do not go back into the
previous Period, they continue around the Period they are in.
Game Two: Tyrannosaurus Rumble.
Ages 7+
Exactly the same as above except there are
two new rules.
1) If a player lands on a black
circle they regress to the Period indicated. There are two black
circles on the board.
2) If a player lands on a purple
circle with a question mark, the player to their left picks it up.
They player whose turn it is rolls the die
and the player who is holding the card looks for that number on the
card. If it is a question card, they ask the player whose turn it
is the multiple-choice question on the card. A correct answer
moves the player forward the number of spaces indicated by the die, an
incorrect answer moves the player back the number of spaces indicated by
the die.
For example. If player 1 lands on a
question circle and the card is picked up by Player 2, Player 1 rolls
the die again. Let's say that Player 1 rolls a "2". Player 2
looks at the card. Let's assume it is the card with the
Stegosaurus on it. Question 2 asks whether the Stegosaurus was a
plant-eater or meat-eater. A correct answer (plant-eater) moves
Player 1 forward two circles, an incorrect answer moves Player 1 back
two circles.
If the card is not a question card, for
example "Flap your wings like a Pterosaur". Player 2 would hand
the card to Player 1. Player 1 would then have to flap their arms
like a Pterosaur to move forward two spaces.
The winner is the player who reaches the
large circle with the Tyrannosaurus in a volcanic sunset first.
This is at the top right-hand side of the board in the Late Cretaceous
Period. A player must land exactly on this circle to win.
Good luck and happy playing!
