Numeracy Building Fraction Fluency
Game
Description:
Numeracy - Building
Fraction Fluency provides challenging, high interest games that build
computational fluency with fractions. The games range from simple
to complex, thus providing an indispensable instructional aid for grades
3 and up.
Games may be played by 2-4 players. Based on two simple rules, the
games are ultra easy to play. Each placement of tiles must be
justified, including order of operations whenever that applies.
The three introductory game
have students match a fractional number with a picture, match to
equivalent fractions, or match two fractions that total "one".
Starting with addition, operations are added to include subtraction,
multiplication, division, squaring, and square roots at the advanced
level. All students at these grade levels will be challenged by
games appropriate to their level of ability. Players may choose
from mental computation, calculators or paper and pencil to compute
winning combinations.

multiplication over addition to simplify computations with integers,
fractions and decimals
- develop and analyze algorithms for computing with fractions, decimals
and integers and develop fluency in their use
- understand the meaning and effect of arithmetic operations with
fractions, decimals and and integers and develop fluency in their use
- select appropriate methods and tools for computing with fractions and
decimals among mental computation, estimation, calculators and paper and
