Description:
The 44 lessons in this manual are designed to give the student a
basic understanding of the most important concepts of experimental
probability. These easy-to-use lessons are particularly suitable for the
middle grades through junior high school.
The skills of careful observation, classification of events, recording
results, tallying frequencies, graphing, and formulating generalizations
are all incorporated here into comprehensive problem solving
experiences. The student actually experiences the use of the scientific
method which consists of three basic components observing some
phenomena, making a record, and seeking a general explanation of
hypothesis. By following this sequence, these lessons provide a
"wholeness" to an arithmetic experience in contrast to the excessive
fragmentation that marks too much of the instruction in this subject.
There is considerable open-endedness in these exercises which can be
utilized for variations and innovations.
