Puzzle Math
Game Description:
Puzzle Math Game - Learning Math by Building Puzzles
Kids have a natural curiosity and they love to succeed at whatever
they do. Learning math can be an adventurous experience, or if it is
rushed and pressured, it can become a memorable defeating event. Puzzle
Math eases a child into the concept of how things go together to form
new things. Whether it's a whole puzzle, or a whole number, children
learn to combine the necessary elements to create the desired results.
Many young children can easily count numbers by reciting them in rapid
order just as they do the alphabet. They give the impression that they
really understand what 1-2-3-4-5-...etc.,etc., mean, when in reality,
they are just linking together words and sounds. Developing the thought
connection between the word "three" and the idea that it means 3 of
something, that it follows 2 in seriation, and that is composed of 2 and
1, or 1 and 1 and 1, is the foundation upon which a child builds a
higher order of logical reasoning.
Puzzle Math makes the reality of numbers come alive through active play.
Special descriptive dice show the number symbols and the number groups.
Children see at once, the number, the group of items that the number
represents, and the word equivalent, as they choose the required puzzle
cards.
Children are fascinated by the colorful puzzle themes: astronauts,
dinosaurs, a circus clown, and a farm scene. Each puzzle is constructed
mathematically by relating the number on the opposite side of each
piece, to the sum or difference of the numbers shown by the roll of the
dice, and then placing the piece over its correct number equivalent on
the playing boards. Children are encouraged to creatively manipulate the
numbers when a symbol is indicated on the dice. This "free choice"
symbol allows a child to "create" a number that "fits" to make the sum,
necessary to play a given card, and be the first to finish a puzzle
picture. Completion of the colorful puzzles is the motivating factor
that encourages a child to practice computations. All at once, math
actually becomes fun.
