Quizmo Nouns Game
Description:
Nouns are an essential part of sentence structure and writing.
By
determining the differences among nouns, readers are better able to
comprehend
text and writers can expand their knowledge of word choice
in writing.
Level A - Person, Place, Thing, Idea
This level requires the BLUE cards and uses Game Boards 1 - 20. At
this level students have to listen to a sentence and identify the noun
that matches the designated category. For example, the Caller reads "The
Sandwich was tasty and filling." Identify the noun in this sentence that
"sandwich" is the noun in this sentence. Then the student would look to
see if sandwich was on their Game Board. For another level of play, the
teacher can use the reverse side of the Calling Card. This side allows
the student to complete the sentence using the specific noun type
required by the Calling Card.
Note: There is only one correct answer per sentence. Players should be
cautioned to listen to the entire clue before masking their card.
Level B - Common and Proper Nouns
This level requires the RED cards and uses Game Boards 21 - 40.
Level B is played in the same format as level A. Each card will ask for
students to identify either the Common or Proper Noun in the sentence.
Students should be able to notice that Proper Nouns are capitalized and
Common Nouns are not.
Level C - Concrete and Abstract Nouns
This level requires the GREEN cards and uses Game Board 41 - 60.
Level C asks students to identify either the Concrete or Abstract Noun
in the sentence. From this level, students will be able to see that
Concrete Nouns connect to the five senses, while Abstract Nouns do not.
Level D - Compound and Collective Nouns
This level requires the BLACK cards and uses Game Boards 61 - 80.
Level D asks students to identify either the Compound of Collective noun
in a sentence. From this level, students will be able to note that
Compound Nouns contain two words and Collective Nouns are one word that
represents a single group.
