MIRKO MARCHESI
Creativity Italian-style
Mirko Marchesi, a thirty year-old
Milanese, is Gigamic's only Italian
creator.
An electronic games addict, Mirko published articles on the
subject at a
very
young age. He spent a large amount of time
developing a new video game
that
will unfortunately never be published,
Commodore having gone out of
business...
After swallowing his
disappointment, he got together with several
childhood friends
to create
more traditional games, and they started the EPTA company. One
of
their first creations, that combines racing and getting round obstacles,
had originally
been conceived by Mirko for 1 or 2 players on a computer.
With a huge
wooden
board and 40 stainless steel (!) fences, the EPTA
team then turned it
into a true
board game, sold in late 1995 under the
name PINKO PALLINO. We had
already seen "labyrinth" games,
but purists loved this one because of
its simplicity.
Gigamic soon
offered to develop it for the Milanese team. The concept
then evolved
to acquire more speed and involve 4 players: QUORIDOR was born.
Despite
its
success, Mirko kept a cool head. Having a family to look
after, he
wisely kept his
job with an up-market kitchen manufacturer
for large restaurants. Which
doesn't
keep him from devoting his free
time to creating games no longer focused
on electronics!
