The History of Tangram:

Legend has it that many  years ago, there lived in China a man by the man of Taun. One day, he dropped a square object, which broke into seven pieces. When he tried to put the seven pieces together, he was amazed to discover that he could create thousands of "pictures" with
the shapes, some of which appear on the enclosed game cards.
 
Re-creating even the square, using all seven pieces is not as easy as you may think. You may require the model in the booklet to help you.
